I know many things about running and selling things over the Net, since I have an Internet co. that do the same thing. (my second job) More and more people have been logged into the Internet everyday, 30,000 new comers or so, and it is true that more people will purchase goods from the Net. There are many ways to make money over the net. 1. Advertising, like T.V. and newspaper More visitors they get, more revenues, Usually it's good for popular sites, such as espn.com disney.com sex.com persiankitty.com as well as most search engines. 2. Selling products, it could be unique or commodity. Books and CDs are commodity. Anyone can sell it. 3. Selling services or subscribe something. 4. Others What AMZN does is option #2, plus #1. The most important thing is how to do marketing for all Internet operation co. Actually I used to like AMZN when they were 15-20 or so, since I knew they were pretty good at exposing their site. Very well orgazined marketing, such as webmasters commission sharing program, My point, The company that do #1 and #3 will survive. I'm not saying all of them will do well, but most likely that many of them will make some serious money from their operations. Especially #1. The brand name or well recongazined names, the most priority assets for Internet co. The company that do #2 for most of their revenues, will be out of business or consolidated. Especially for those who sell commodity products, such as music CDs and books, Why? It's so darn easy for others to get in and customers to compare prices among many on-line stores. If microsoft wants to sell music CDs as well as their softwares, they can accomplish it less than a week. Just my $0.02 opinion!
