Jess---I enjoy reading your notes. Very thought provoking. My trader's sense somehow is telling me that Hashimoto is going to surprise many by announcing a credible and effective plan and that the market there is going much higher as a result, My sense is that we are all being lulled into a false apathy that they won't really do anything--particularly the West which is telling itself that that the Japanese don't have the stomach culturally to take bold steps. My gut is somehow telling me that we are in for a surprise on that score. Just my 2c

Jess: I see the the Chinese bluffing pure and simple. Foreign trade accounts for only 20% of China's GDP. That is the lowest percentage among Asia's exporters, excluding Japan. Moreover, only 20% of China's exports compete directly with those from other countries in SEA. Even with the devaluations, China's labor cost are still rock bottom. I would say that China can and will suck it up. The risks of devaluation as I have stated before are just too great. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Still enjoy your posts.
