A president of a local high-tech company told me the other day that "Toyota could double their Japan production with the flick of a wrist.....if they want to let the yen slide....then let it slide...we'll see who cries uncle."

The point is that some people have to work for a living, and the exchange rate effects that ability rather severely depending on what industry you are in. It should not be used as a political weapon.

Let's see how GM fares (with the strikes and all) if the exchange rate goes above 200 yen and Toyota decides to flood the world market with cheap, extremely high-quality vehicles!

But hopefully our fearless leader would not let that happen.
