g'day all, dear Ken - one of the reasons CSCO dominates the router segment [aside from Eric B droping the ball <sg>] is because of its routing software IOS. By reputation, its hardwares may be so-so, but like the pre debundled IBM mainframe OS back in the 60s, the 80% entrenchment is not easy to topple. That's why most of the other networkers, like BAY, are touting an open standard. Unfortunately, like it or not, CSCO doesn't have to sing that song, for 80% is pretty much a de facto standard - and that is why it it trying fight off any insurgency by the newer switches.

Hope this help

best, Bosco
