3Com Corp. (COMS) The networking firm's stock has steadily fallen from about 36 at the beginning of the year to Tuesday's close at 26. It was trading above 59 in August. Even a late flurry of rumored takeover bids hasn't jump-started this stock while competitors Ascend Communications Inc. (ASND) and Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) continue to soar.
On Wednesday, 3Com is scheduled to report its fourth quarter earnings with First Call consensus expecting earnings of 18 cents a share. Last quarter, 3Com made $13.8 million, or 4 cents a share, on sales of $1.25 billion. In the fourth quarter of 1997, it raked in $177 million, or 50 cents a share, on sales of $1.5 billion.
Analysts say this is a pivotal earnings report for the stock with only 20 of the 24 institutional investment firms following it maintaining a "buy" or "strong buy" recommendation.
Still, analysts expect fiscal 1998 earnings of 69 cents a share and a profit of $1.45 a share in fiscal 1999.

Moonray- there is a 200' fiberglas tiger musky in Hayward. You can walk inside it, or hang out on the observation deck in the mouth. It really confuses Europeans - "Zis big fish building, it is for nothing, no?"

Sorry to just be blathering...
