I think that the term "operating system" is simply a poorly defined term and should simply be dropped from the lexicon. Microsoft is right to not allow anyone to pin down what the term means. I think the DOJ would be better off to concentrate on things like the interfaces between Microsoft products and developers (the API's), or between Microsoft products and users (the screen you see when you turn on the computer, the functionality that you use when you click buttons, etc..)

Yeah, and the world used to be flat as well. Things evolve and change, it is the way of the world - get used to it.

Maybe your world used to be flat. There is an underlying physical reality beyond the Mind of Reg(TM), you know, unless you're into solipsism. Anyway, I'm plenty used to creative redefinition of common terms in Microsoftese. In general, I find the neologistics of it all quite amusing. After all, what else is an OS but a set of APIs? War is peace, ignorance is strength, Windows is open. Bill said so, it must be the TRUTH.

I'm also plenty used to cheesy high school debate techniques. Thank you, Reggie.

Cheers, Dan.
