Trends in the wireless telecoms market

Brazil - SABI via NewsEdge Corporation : Telecoms
equipment producers expect the privatization of
Telebras holding to boost the WLL terminals
segment to a volume of business around US$8bil.
Lucent Technologies already started WLL
equipment production, while NEC, Nokia, and
Samsung does nto discard moves into the
business. The Brazilian telecommunications
expansion programme predicts 40mil fixed
telephone terminals until year 2003, adding 24mil
lines, olf which 1/3 likely to adopt WLL technology,
that requires cheap investments and allows fast
implementation. Meanwhile, PCN, a joint venture
teaming Inepar, Vicunha, and Millicom Kinnezik is
ready to move into WLL operations. It has already
got licenses in Argentina, Colombia, and
Venezuela. In Argentina it should invest initially
US$100mil through the subsidiary Telelatina. In
Colomgia PCN is associated with IFC and CellStar
in Interloop Telecomunicacoes, to invest US$100mil
in 1998 and US$1bil over the next ten years. In
Venezuela Inepar associated with Elca and N!ortel.

I wonder if there is any speculation that big houses may acquire QCOM. QCOM's market cap is so low and the potential is so great. It should not be a big deal even if the share price is doubled for acquisition.
