'"To do viable contingency planning, we would have to divert our resources from year 2000 work," Rossotti said, "and we are trying not to do that." The IRS has 127 mission-critical systems with 85,000 modules and 50 million lines of code affecting more than 1,400 minicomputers and 13,000 PCs, Rossotti said. It also uses the Treasury Communications Network, which has more than 100,000 components. The largest challenge will be to do integrated testing of all systems once they have been repaired, the commissioner said.
