Yogi, Mr Geenen did not really give any guidance and mostly
verified what this thread has discussed in the past.
I wonder now which disk manufacturer will disappear.
Komag is the obvious one, but the obvious does not
always happen. FWIW, some ex-IBMers who went to Komag
have returned to the mothership.
In the head area I think ReadRite will survive, if only
because there is no other independent head maker.
All this is guesswork on my part. Looking at the chart,
I wonder what the market knows that I don't.

It seems there's no hurry to invest, because recovery
of the business will be slow. And the companies may
never reach previous peaks of profitability again.

Hear, hear.

Thanks Mark and Gottfried!

As you probably know, I've waited for a big analyst-forecast correction as one of the necessary signals which portend the next boom. I find it noteworthy that no significant mention was made of Win98 or Y2K as HDD demand drivers. One of the conditions that sets the stage for a boom is underforecasting directly resulting in industry undercapacity ... it seems we haven't reached that point quite yet, but the next 6 months promise to be interesting indeed.

God bless,
PX
