Jerard,
You must be using the Bollingen Series, R. Wilhelm translation.
It is the very best.
p. 305
TA Chuan # 2. "Therefore the eight trigrams succeed one another
by turns, as the firm and the yielding displace each other."

"Here cyclic change is explanned. It is a rotation of phenomena,
each succeeding the other until the starting point is reached again."

I did not realize that Diamonds discipline was evolutionary biology.
Very intersting. Maybe I will push him up.

There is a whole new system of economics being passed around and it is
based on biology. Michael Rothschild 'Bioeconomics: Economy as Ecosystems'
is one of the first books out, 1992.

"Old mental tools like historical economics" are often hard to shake
off.....their spell is ingrained. They are merely the memories of people
who attempted to look more broadly at the human condition. They are also
one of the building stones upon which todays western monetary systems
are grounded. Even if that grounding maybe in sand.

But if Diamond's book can clear away these mendacious old farts...so much
the better. Although I will miss Toynbee he had a brilliant insight into
the evoultion of societies.
