Carefully read the back of your Datek confirmations.

"We acted as principle, either buying from you or selling to you. We may have earned a profit on this transaction"

Big difference between acting as principle and acting as agent IMHO.

R. Stevens:

Perhaps I'm being paranoid here, but...

I noticed that they said that "Datek Online does not make a market in any stock and does not trade for its own account..."

This does not clarify to me whether I am being screwed by using the Island ECN. Maybe you could ask them whether the owners / operators of the Island ECN make a market or trade for their account. Another question might be whether "anyone using the Island ECN gets preferential executions over any other user of the Island ECN." I recognize that Datek is involved with the Island system, but I don't know if "Datek Online" would be the name of the group, if any, who might be getting preferential access to the Island ECN executions.

In short, I am still concerned that I am getting screwed using the Island. I have heard this possibility from too many places to not be worried. By the way, I posted a direct question about this to Jeffrey Citron on the "Island ECN" thread and have gotten no response.

Let us know if you hear anything else.

Thanks,
-Eric
