DCF, How very stupid of me. I sincerely apologize. You have every right to be offended. I didn't take your question seriously, and gave a negative twist to it in my reply. That was bad, and my response was unnecessary, I'm sorry!

"We were among the first" referred to witnesses as a people. I wasn't in a camp. Eugen Kogon's book, The Theory and Practice of Hell gives this account:

"The witnesses at Sachsenhausen were invited to volunteer for military service. Each refusal was followed by the shooting of ten men from their ranks. After 40 victims has been killed, the SS desisted....One cannot escape the impression that, psychologically speaking, the SS were never quite equal to the challenge offered them by Jehovah's Witnesses."

No doubt my response was puzzling and upsetting, and the hospital episode just static, DCF. I'll be more careful; and I'm glad you wrote to set matters straight.

Very sincerely, and regretfully,

Don Martini
