Zeev,

Most of the copper smelters use silicon dioxide flux, even the new japanese injection smelting technology. I am told it is to prevent copper oxidation. I know of companies who make very good money just by mining quartz for copper smelters.

I still don't understand the need to precipitate precious metal already in solution only to smelt and disolve again.
