"3Com Corp. Soars 10% In Late Trading After Upside 4Q Report "

Dow Jones Newswires -- June 24, 1998

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--3Com Corp. (COMS) surged nearly 10% in
aftermarket trading, following an upside fiscal fourth-quarter report that
beat Wall Street's views by a penny.

Shares of the Santa Clara, Calif., concern recently jumped 9.7% to 29 3/4,
after finishing at 27 1/8, which reflects a regular-session gain of 1 1/8, or
4.3%.

3Com, which supplies data, voice and video communications technology,
registered operating earnings of 18 cents a diluted share for the
fourth-quarter ended May 31, topping First Call Corp.'s 17-cent estimate
and surpassing last year's 12 cents.

Several other companies that reported material news after the market
closed remained relatively inactive.

joe--- What was meant was the short term holders would smile at a takeover for the quick bump in share price. The long term holders would be cheated out of COMS gains as they would be diluted with the merged company.
I did not hear the cc but will listen Thurs or Fri. I like the recording AFTER others have given their impressions. That method allows me to close in on specifics that I might otherwise miss.
The earnings were great! The company press release was also great, but some reporters are already hammering. It will take a BIG hammer to knock it down now!
