Over on the AMAT thread there is a heated discussion as to whether die shrinks increase capacity, since AMAT as a supplier is dependent upon tight capacity. The gist of the question is what type of effect die shrinks have when concurrently moving up the line in terms of chip designs. My own understanding was that if the chips increased in complexity, a die shrink would not necessarily increase capacity. Teri of the thread is of the opposite opinion. She believes that die shrinks will always increase cpacity.
