Scientific-Atlanta Receives AsiaSat Type Approval - Lowers Antenna Installation Costs

biz.yahoo.com

>>ATLANTA, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientific-Atlanta announced today that it has received AsiaSat type approval for its 4.5-meter earth station antennas for more rapid, cost-effective installations in the Asia Pacific region. The approved antennas no longer need individual verification of RF performance prior to entering into operation in the AsiaSat system, eliminating the rigorous and time-consuming field testing formerly required at each earth station site prior to installation.

''Even without the current financial climate in the region, an opportunity to save as much as $10,000 per earth station antenna installation is quite a significant reduction in costs,'' said John Mann, vice president of worldwide sales for satellite networks at Scientific-Atlanta. ''Gaining AsiaSat type approval enables users of our 4.5-meter antennas in our Skylinx(TM) telecommunications or SkyRelay(R) interactive data satellite networks to commission and operate their networks more quickly. That, in turn, helps maximize revenue opportunities and offers their customers network service on an accelerated time schedule.''<<
