Bob-- I think without population control we have a serious problem, the growth rate has been considerably brought down from 4.1% in early 60's to 2.8%, just last year more then a billion condoms were used (thanks NGO's) in a nation where use of condom was unheard just until 1991, from 1 million to 1000 million in 8 years is quite a jump. If out of 100 is a productive mating averagely, I think we have saved 10 milion unwanted births in last eight years. That population control is another exercise and we are in fore front of that battle to. The issue I have been involved right now is to increase food resources for existing growth trajectory. I hope you will appreciate that ' ideological' barriers to population control are obstacles one needs to circumvent, if right now I get involved with the 'clergy' my efforts to get this thing off the ground alongwith thousands of other liberal Pakistanis will stall in mid year. This is going to one of the largest project undertaken by our government nearly 6 billion $'s, for me the emphasis here is 'tapping of resources' ofcourse we need to keep working very hard to see a falling trajectory of population growth. Even if we come down to 1.5% growth our present resources fell far in short of demand we anticipate in 10 years. Thanks for rasisng a very pertinent point.
