Unsophisticated investors

Until recently, I doubted that they could be such a factor. However,
the lack of large block trades (although this could be deceiving) and
the level of comments of people on this thread and on the Yahoo
thread have given me second thoughts.

People actually believe that stock splits create value and wonder
why companies don't do it all the time. They look in to the future
and project the stock splits at regular intervals. They are unaware
of the academic data that consistently shows that stock splits, if anything, are bearish.

Professional traders, using put options as protection, may be
contributing to this also. I will be interested in tomorrow.
