John...

>>I invest in stocks with low p/e, good earning and strong cash balance. And I must be familiar with the business. Being familiar in certain sectors of tech business, I try to use that to my advantage.<<

Sounds a lot like myself. I have always been afraid of shorting ATHM along with a lot of other INET stocks. Shorted YHOO awhile back and covered with a significant loss. I have shorted a bunch of others and except for Bally (BFT) I am ahead. Currently short (ZITL, ZONA, CCSI, DCTI and shorted TAVA today.

Being retired, this has become somewhat of a hobby for me. I have about 95% of my assets in long term MF and Blue Chip stocks including MSFT and INTC. I believe I can ride out some downturns as long as the downtourns don't last for a few years.

In the meantime, I hope to keep my discipline and not dip into my core assets which I need for income.
