Hi Sandra,

I didn't know Shamu was in Ohio...This is Shamu the orca whale, right?
They are lovely mammals, actually the largest member of the dolphin family. Called Whale Killer by early Spanish whalers for their custom of driving herds of baleen whales into harpoon range, the name was later inverted in translation to read "Killer Whale." I used to see them in the Northwest waters, around the San Juan straits....

In the eighties, I spent some time at Dolphin Lab, Grassy Key, Florida, studying Dolphins and spending lots of swimming time with them and teaching them skills....but I can't imagine being in the water with the orca...leave that to the professional trainers at the aquariums.....:-/

That's all I have to report on HDIE tonight.

Best,
Charliss
