Here's an interesting report on 3D: jpa.com "By the end of 1998 JPA estimates over 77 million PCs will be 3D hardware enabled, or approximately 84 percent of all PCs. These hardware-enabled PCs will make up 98.9 percent of the total PC market by the year 2003. In 1998 JPA estimates there will be 18 million 3D users, growing to some 79.3 million users in 5 years." I really never believed you can just call a store and ask them how sales are doing and get a straight answer. Do you know all the folks you spoke with? would they be willing to do the favor and answer this question even if they knew? I know I would just want you off the phone to be honest... Just 3 weeks back I bought my v-2 and did NOT have my choice of cards. I always laughed when people would tell stories of standing in line with the card and having people comment.. well, not only did someone comment when I was in line with the card but also a father and son started rambling about how great it was when I was looking at software. I believe sales are going to start slowing, and prices will start coming down, and I also believe the banshee will ship in late August to give recover any shortfall just as expected. If you honestly believe that there will be a shortfall in sales, it would mean that oppenheimer was correct in saying the market is saturated and this would mean the entire 3d industry is in SERIOUS trouble. I dont see this as a possible scenario. I disagree with your opinion and how it was obtained, but its a scary thought non the less.
