Telson Electronics to Supply Mobile Phones to Motorola June 25, 1998 (SEOUL) -- Telson Electronics Co., Ltd., a Korean communications device maker, agreed to supply US$30 million in cellular phones to U.S.-based Motorola Inc. in 1998. "The Korean company recently signed a letter of intent to supply CDMA (code division multiple access) cellular phones to Motorola," a Motorola official said. "Supply tests are underway, and the two companies hope to finalize a contract as early as next month," he added. The official also said Motorola plans to develop Pantech Co. as its Korean production center, while selling Telson products in China, the United States, South America and Australia. Telson Electronics recently announced it developed a compact digital cellular phone (TDC-500) and a personal communications service (PCS ) phone (TPC-3300). The company is also building a US$21.4 million plant to produce cellular and PCS phones. The new plant will increase its cellular phone production capacity to 2 million units a year. Telson Electronics hopes to record US$71.4 million in sales this year and US$214 million in 1999. )
