IP Telephony Anecdotes

One of the world's major telecommunication companies, with significant revenue from long-distance telephone service, reportedly held a conference call among their most senior technology people to assess how real the threat from IP telephony was to their long distance business. The discussion did not yield a conclusion until about 20 minutes into the call, when one of the participants announced he had called in using IP telephony. The stunned audience quickly concluded that IP telephony was a threat to take seriously.

The president of one major Internet service provider, in a recent speech, predicted that, because of bandwidth constraints, IP telephony would not be a major factor "for a long time - maybe nine to twelve months
