<<Enjoy your REAL life. The web is only illusion.>>

Now that I am catching up on my old messages, it is nice to see such sweet ones, particularly from you, Del and Penni. The web IS only illusion, and I think after reading Del's and Penni's recent comments, that I am not alone in wondering if the time some of us spend here is really justifiable. It is so easy to be misunderstood, to get into arguments that quickly raise blood pressure but accomplish nothing, and to get involved vicariously in lives that ultimately we do not touch on a real basis.

I carry other peoples' stories in my head, and have established trust with some, made a few enemies as well, run smack dab into some of the most brilliant minds ever encountered anywhere, and all of this is still genuinely fascinating. But sometimes when my child asks me what I am smiling about, or I realize I have been looking right through my husband when he is telling me something that I did not hear, because I was thinking about something that "happened" at SI, I think this is a pretty big distraction. It is definitely an alternative reality, in fact, and brings with it all the questions one should ask about being in a state that has some of the characteristic symptoms of being drugged out.

It is still a lot of fun, more interesting to me than board games or watching television, and I think as long as the time I spend here is truly leisure time, it continues to be an enrichment rather than a negative, for the most part. But is so easy to get so involved that the real parts of life fall by the wayside. I think I have become more sensitive to when I am overly involved, or the computer is sucking up time I don't really have, in the way some of the others who are now "old timers" at SI have realized. And I think that is why we are here less frequently. The bloom is definitely off the rose, although mature flowers have a little appeal of their own, and the garden still wafts its beautiful smells and entices with brilliant blossoms of many colors.

Anyway, thanks for the nice wishes!
