MSFT doesn't make sense. Comcast et al own coax into the home and MSFT wants to drive high-speed networking into the residential market ASAP. QWST doesn't have much to offer in that arena.

Gates doesn't want to control "distribution" (the pipes). they want to drive the market toward broadband and control the software infrastructure, but they could care less about owning the physical plant, IMO.

This is an interesting thought that MSFT would buy QWST. It sure would be a bold move by Gates to buy this company but it is consistent with his longer term vision. The Justice Dept. would be spinning on its head. MSFT sure has a lot of cash so it's doable. Hmmmm.
