You have referred to the factor of emotion. I think in the last ten minutes Mexico moved on that factor and channelled it well. It counts for a lot, maybe even for the Italian victory over Germany in 1970.
If emotion was a factor, I am glad that for Mexico that it was not a case of too little too late. Under the right conditions it bodes well for them in the next round, particularly because they tied and did not win the game. That should reduce the possibility of overconfidence.

What I like about the first round is that there were no (or very few, or surprisingly few) free rides.

Correct on all counts.

Psychology is tremendously important in this sport, (as I am sure it is in all sports), The never give up attitude will overcome ANY DEFICIENCY in skill.

I am not saying that that is all it takes, but it is a great mistake to "discount your opponent, "ANY" opponent before the game.

Once you become energized (by a goal, a good play, pressure on the opponent, whatever), you become like you are playing "in the ZONE", and then the opponent begins making mistakes...

I have no doubt this Mexico - Holland game (in the second half), we saw it....

Another example was the Trolls against Brazil.

the "favorite" freezes... they become "uncapable", nervous, as if you were "handicapped"

Psychollogy can and will turn games around.
