>> I haven't yet done the cost comparison between going with Diamond Shotgun + a proxy server vs the Webramp system which is basically Shotgun + a router.

An approximate cost comparison follows:

1. Both approaches require network interface cards, one or two cables and require you to configure the Mac's and PC's network software. As this is approximately the same for both configurations the cost of these items can be ignored in the trade off.

2. Cost of WebRampM3i approach
WebRampM3i $561.

3. Do it yourself approach.
SupraSonic II Modem $189
WebRamp PC software $39
WinProxy Lite $60
Total $288

Cost wise the do it your self approach wins. However, I don't know how hard or easy it is to install the WinProxy Lite software. Hence you will have to make a subjective judgement as to which is the best solution for you.

Price of WebRampM3i obtained from Computer SuperStore at css.isn.com I don't know how competitive their prices are but they do list prices for items you can't find in most mail order catalogs.

Networking a PC and Mac

I like the least costly idea as suggested.
Buy some ethernet cards,
a hub (probably an 8 port)
the ShotGun Modem
and a Nat/Proxy.

It looks like Nevod Nat 1000 will support
networking a PC and Mac ???
nevod.com

As in this post, I prefer Nat over Proxy.

shotgun/mac/pc networking cont.

If you are just networking one PC
and one MAC, you don't even have
to buy a hub. If you want more
computers in your network, you'll
need the hub.

The shotgun modem will be hooked up
in the com port of the PC. A $9 cable will
hook the PC and Mac's ethernet cards together.

The internet connection will come into
the PC, Nevod 1000 will allow internet access
to your Mac superior to a proxy server, as
well as having a simple 5 minute initial set-up.

This is my understanding from the diagram
and readings of Nevod Nat 1000.
