11:59 DJS Ellison Blasts Microsoft Chief Gates' Argument As A 'Big Lie'

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Speaking at a technology conference in Virginia
Wednesday, Oracle Corp. Chief Executive Officer Larry Ellison again took shots
at Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates, the Washington Times reported
Thursday.
Ellison called Gates' argument. that the government should leave
Microsoft alone in order to preserve software innovation, "the big lie
theory," the Times said. "It's one of the most outrageous statements I've ever
heard," Ellison said, while criticizing a federal appeals court's decision
earlier this week to overturn an injunction against Microsoft.
The three-judge panel reversed last year's ruling by U.S. District
Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson that forced Microsoft to offer its
Internet Explorer software and Windows 95 operating system separately. The
ruling gave the company powerful ammunition to fight a much broader antitrust
case filed by the Justice Department last month.
