John,

OK, one more violation of Frost's 1st Rule <bpcg>. (figure that out, Mikey)

What you say may be true, but I was speaking as an individual, not as an economist, legislator, policy wonk, or even as a voter. My livelihood would not be threatened by subsidized Japanese auto's or free New Zealand lamb chops. While I might sell less of my services to the UAW crowd or the occasional shepherd who wanders by, I'll take the cheap cars and free food any day.

Now you tell me I should punish these nasty folks by not allowing their goods across our borders. So it's back to overpriced cars and $11.99/lb. chops (how much is that in $/stone, Maurice?). Or maybe we should punish them by using my tax dollars to subsidize QCOM's bid in the NZ spectrum auction. That would serve those rotten sheep-dumpers right. Hmmmm.... lift foot, aim, fire... lift foot, aim, fire...

Anyway, that's my simplistic view.

Regards,
Jim
