Jim, yes to the earnings shortfall in revenue and margin with a few bright spots.. but I'd never dismiss IBM's ability to spin a web of supportive good news.

IBM's growth to PE ratio is about .5 which makes it overvalued in my opinion especially since holding the stock until next year near or below these levels looks like it could be dead money.

I feel MSFT is also a big risk here to those who own the stock.. Win98 is not worth the upgrade and will rely on new computer sales which are average. It still faces an uphill court battle with Justice Dept and is up on a relief and optimism rally.. of course all they need to do is split and the price would soar <g> on perceived valuation.
