CHENNAI, June 24.

Satellite TV fare is going to have more live content from August with at least four regional channels likely to uplink directly from Chennai.

Following the decision by the Union Government to allow live uplinking from the country to TV companies with less than 20 per cent foreign equity holding, a Chennai-based TV group, which has a cluster of four language channels, including a yet-to-be launched Malayalam channel, and a Telugu TV company have approached the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) for setting up facilities.

At present, these channels are uplinking from overseas earth- stations limiting the live content to practically nil. Even after shifting their uplinking base, both the groups would continue to beam their programmes through Intelsat satellites. The Chennai- based TV company has sought uplinking facilities for all its four channels while the Telugu company will have only one channel, VSNL sources said.
