The demand for Pfizer's newest drug has created a mania of sorts among impotent(and nonimpotent) men and some women. The Washington Post reports that men are "besieging" doctors for Pfizer's Viagra. A Georgetown University clinic, according to the papers, says its waiting list for patients eager to try the drug has grown to 300 patients. Among those requesting the drug are man who, while not impotent are looking for ways to improve their sexual performance and women who, according to several reports, have heard that the drug can enhance their sexual experience. Even Pfizer, though, acknowledges that some dangers could arise from the drug's popularity. For instance, a urology clinic in Milwaukee is prescribing the drug over the phone, advertising its services on the internet. Pfizer opposes the practice, noting that physicians should examine patients to see if their impotence results from physiological reasons, such as diabetes. Still, according to the Post, Viagra could become the biggest-selling drug of all time. At $10 a dose, Viagra could bring Pfizer more than $5 billion in sales this year. ----America's Pharmacist----
