Newsbytes - June 25, 1998: 12:41 a.m. ET

HILLSBORO, OREGON, U.S.A. (NB) -- Intel Corp.
[NASDAQ:INTC] has announced it is supporting
a home networking technology that works across
phone lines. Known as HomePNA (Home Phone
Networking Alliance), the technology is being
announced progressively over the next few
months by Intel and 11 other members of the
alliance.

The non "processor chip" members of the
HomePNA alliance are 3Com, Compaq, IBM,
Lucent, Rockwell and Tut Systems, the latter of
which, Newsbytes notes, has recently announced
plans for its HomePNA compliant HomeRun
home network technology to be sold in the third

Joe..my best guesstimate puts Erics European heritage with a European company.....I have a lingering thought.Eric says"We'll work from the edge out. What is he up to?....... Intelligience at the edge?...... Simplicity? Can he take on Cisco without taking on Cisco by making the edge smarter?
Next when does the 56Flex fall-out begin? What happens to Cisco's and Ascends stuff? Has the Townsend card been fully played? Or will flex end up with egg on it's face???
How long will Hayes stay afloat??? It sure seems that COMS dominates the edge with in-house technology. Is it not true that the biggest bottleneck with through-put is at the edge? All info/data can go like hell down the pipe but it's gotta be processed at the destination/edge....Enough rambling......
