Zbyslaw --

Reading over my notes from the last conference call, I see where Jim Kedersha asked about NN's competition and what the future was for ATM.

TM said NN was the founder of ATM movement. It handles all kinds of traffic. By design this technology can handle all types of traffic. By design. (He repeated himself and emphasized "by design.") NN took high ground and said management is critical. Service management is another layer. NN's is 100X more powerful than competitors. Scale is important. Now all competitors have adopted same format. The 36170 has a successful string of wins. Last week released 3.1 --- increased characteristics and capabilities. Single shelf 1.6 up to 12.8 gigs. ASIC to 50 gigs at end of year. Analyze the differences: 50 gig uses same software as 12.8. Good for clients. No loss. Use WDM with no upgrade. 1.6 to 12.8 to 50 gigs. No hits. Don't lose 1 cell! (again his emphasis). [This tells me it's been tested in the labs. How else would you know?]

ATM wins?

Continue to progress. ATM to replace FR. ATM to replace private lines. ADSL, SDSL far better than competitors. 4 to 1 better density, no. of ports. Better power. Better control. Not just piggy-backed. MainStreetX is integrated. It can be segmented. Split up bandwidth. Apportion it to different uses. Solution set is a broad range.

Someone from BT Alex Brown asked about the current quarter.

First four weeks show continued strength in order uptake.

Mr. Copeland of CBIC Wood Gundy asked about shipments of MCI/BT/C&W. Were they material?

Good 4Q with all of above. PacBell, BritGas --- long list of wins --- some large opportunities. Quangdong. . . largest province in China, all producing.

Companies want to work with NN for multi-services. CSI --- IP services with QoS, "unbelievable interest."

Tenders under way. . . GlobalOne, etc. We're in good shape.

When asked what NN would do if Nortel and LU bought into the network, TM said:

No one else has IP plus classes of services. Management --- to bill separately, trouble ticketing, changes of services --- all have to be built in up front. [Gave examples of how different markets could be targetted.]

When asked if the competition was causing trouble, TM said something about it being more likely the competition was making trouble for Cisco.

When asked about OC-48, TM said the 50 gig switch was likely to have ASIC finished this year. High-speed interfaces included.

Someone asked about C&W --- whether it was TDM or ATM. TM said mainly ATM.

Asked when AT&T would contribute, he said fairly soon. "Yes, Q1."

Later --
