H Wai,

You are right about a lot of the former active ASND posters here on the thread. I know a lot of us were in - in the $20's and $30's.
I tried to day trade and rode it up into the mid 40s and then got busy, where I could not watch the market, so I pulled out.

Now, I am reluctant to buy back in, when comparing the appreciated value of ASND vs some of the other network company stocks. I think MRVC is much more undervalued, and consequently, will have a greater percentage appreciation over the next 3 to 4 months. I hope ASND will dip before October, so I can get back in at a lower cost.

Probably, he downgraded ASND so that his clients could buy it

H.Wai, more likely, his clients were advised he would downgrade 1 or 2 days before he actually did, so they could sell if they chose to. I have never believed analysts downgrade to get clients in, and upgrade to get get clients out, although many believe this to be the case. Also, Al Tobia has a decent track record, from what I can gather.

It seems that many Ascend investors have already got out of this stock and many of the contributors to this thread are not so enthusiastic about ASND as they once were. Do you think so?

Every investor must make his/her own decisions. If the stock has reached your goals then you should sell it. I think its obvious, from the dramatic reduction in posting on this thread that many have left, probably because they have sold. But its impossible to say for sure.

What do you think of the recent DT GX550 contract? Is it an important deal for Ascend?

Yes. I wish their press releases would go into more detail though. I also think the Williams/Pirelli deal is very significant.

The question now is earnings. My feeling is that earnings will have to exceed estimates for the stock to remain at current levels. A significant upside surprise will be needed to move the stock to the 52-55 range.

DT deal

This deal does not have any importance now. This deal was made with a daughter company of DT. They are providing system solutions to coperate customers. The customer DFN (german research network)provides ATM services to most german universities. My guess is that this deal is between 1 to max 5 pieces.
DT already announced the introduction of DSL for 40 cities by the end off 99. Right now they are in a evaluation process of ATM equipment. I guess we could see a major order from them by the end of the year. Ascend is definitely on the short list for this order.
