Bill: employment..hmm, maybe my neighborhood is a sign of things to come for the rest of the nation. We went to a Chinese restaurant that services AMD, Phillips, USWeb and National Semi, and some of the networkers. The waitress volunteered that business just dried up two months ago and she went from waiting-in-line customers to an empty restaurant at both lunch and dinner. She said that she used to have production workers as well as lots of foreigners who were living in corporate-sponsored apartments who just disappeared about two months ago. Now she is worried because she has never seen business this bad.
When we walk through our neighborhood the last two weeks we see something we haven't seen for three years- empty houses with weeds in the yard- and an increasing number of for-sale signs.
It is reasonable to expect a several-month time delay before the Asia impact hits the U.S.
