Just Try Getting a Value Guy to Diss Japan

Even the bottoms-up diehards at Tweedy Browne resort to talking big picture when asked about turmoil in Asia.

At the "Investing 501: International" panel, Chris and William Browne (yes, the Brownes in Tweedy Browne, also the managers of the Global Value fund that has combined high returns and low risk for several years now) were clear that Japan should not be overlooked.

"Japan has a lot of bad press these days, but they're gonna work it out," says Chris. "The banks may be a disaster but the government isn't, and they'll find a way to figure it out." Adds William: "When they go on strike in Japan, they do it for a half-hour on a lunch hour on Friday. We like the fact that they're tough, educated, hardworking people."
