Re: "If these guys can build a fab for 150M, we are in trouble to say the least."

You can say that again. Has anyone on the thread seen this first-hand yet? I'm sure the story is a comforting item to the people who bought AMAT this morning at 32. Why do I find that slightly funny?

Jacob,

You are so right, IMO; the market is very much a psychological game, much more so than math. Mr. Market is completely crazy and moody... what an interesting "game".

So does anyone want to do a second AMAT thread survey??

I've done some digging. From what I understand, the spherical chip folks have:
--venture funding
--patents
--conceptual drawings of how lithography tools *might* work
--conceptual drawings of how non-contact processing *might* work.
--a good PR machine
--some lab-grade equipment.

Guess it was a slow news day over at SBN. This isn't going to bother AMAT or Intel any time soon.

Katherine

Willy,

If you read the article carefully, you'll note that there's no lithography process whatsoever listed in the 4 processes that Ball thinks its got working in a research lab.

Further, you won't see any mention of DRAM, Flash, Logic, ASICs, or any other complex chip. What you'll see is a mention of diodes.
... and probably the low end of a low end part of the semiconductor market.

I wouldn't worry that Ball will threaten AMAT in my lifetime or any one else's for that matter.

They're a development stage company with a compelling story. No profits, in fact No Revenues from Sales and no likelihood of any, any time soon.

Ball reminds me of another diode company with a compelling story. Do a search on ISSM and read a few posts from various times in the history of that thread. Then tell us how excited you are about Ball's promise. ;-)

FWIW,
Ian.

Bill,
I wouldn't worry about it. Much ado about nothing!
