Spouse came home last night with a copy of Costner's opus. I watched 20 minutes before retreating in utter disgust. A three-year winter? The oceans barren? He's worse than Seagal. He made this mistake in Waterworld - giving credence to the idea that man's technology will lead to such a massive dislocation of the ecosphere that we won't even recognize our planet. He took Brin's work and turned it into another platform for this envirocalyptic tripe. Heck, even the Holnists were just Smokers (from Waterworld) on horses.
I think I walked out when the first act of random cruelty was thrust in our faces in close-up time-lapse Technicolor. I need a Belushi flick to remove the sour taste from my brain. At least Animal House is a morally uplifting tale about young men coming of age in the 60s.
