Yeah, I worked for a division of Sports Channel....and coverage there is a joke.
The ratings are poor and the money is slim for products like that.
Good luck on your investment. Keep hoping...I'll take a gentlemen's bet on that one.
Murdoch is spending money on sports in the hope that he can STEAL ESPN's core products eventually - that quantity can offset quality. What YOU are missing in YOUR calculations is that the sports TV marketplace is SATURATED...TOO MUCH PRODUCT AND TOO FEW DOLLARS chasing it...
Murdoch's sports channels (yes, he has a couple) are NOT money winners. And his time frame SEEMS to be indefinite. However, he has been known to shutter his money losers...
Besides, notice what his stock has done over the last few years? Not much. Why? Cause he doesn't make money the way normal companies do...let's just say he plays accounting games.
In the meantime, the USBL MAY get a short lived contract (for a year, maybe two)...and you can get out in a short time frame. But
THAT is a false hope...any contract will NOT add appreciably to the USBL's revenues. There aren't the ratings to back it up.
As for the NBA on USA way back when...I think you're fooling yourself to compare the USBL to the NBA. There is no, and never will be, a competitive environment between them. USBL is the NBA's minors. Can it make money over the long haul? Maybe. I doubt it. The NBA is currently facing its toughest times. As interest in it wanes, expect the USBL to suffer, too.
BTW, I don't give a tinker's damn about the stock. I'm not an MM. I'm being honest. It's long term junk. If you can make a short term profit off it, good for you. But don't try to fool people into thinking it's a winner over any appreciable period of time.
