TOKYO (Nikkei)-Kansai Cellular Telephone Co. along with two other
cell-phone companies announced Thursday rates for the new CDMA
(code division multiple access) digital phone service, which will begin
operation on July 14.

The monthly fees are slightly higher than current services, but call
rates and fees for data transmission are the same as other digital and
analog services. CDMA also boasts better voice quality and is more
suited for data transmission than existing systems, officials of the
companies said.

The new service's monthly fee is 4,800 yen for Plan A, 200 yen higher
than the current digital services and 400 yen higher than the analog
service. The call rate for Plan A is 100 yen for the first three minutes
and the subscription fee is 2,700 yen, the same as other services.
