irby - I think, as I recall & you no doubt know, pre-holiday trading can witness some big swings.

I think the reasoning I heard or read was that traders tend to reduce short positions just before holidays & guess I stated the play wrong. Is it not that if one buys, they should do so before the 2 or so day period, as the 2 day period can, in some situations, create an unusual price rise? Conversely, I believe price drops can occur as there is more fluctuation, so one must be sharp or leave it alone.

This stuck in my mind that statistics in US, showed a 10 - 25% , or so, rise on those days, with the day previous to holiday being the largest. Does this make any sense or am I out to lunch?
