You are absolutely correct that splits don't mean anything as far
as the fundamentals, eps etc. and it is true that quite a few
stocks head south after split. However, story stocks w NO earnings
and little long term future benefit from split. They become more
"affordable" since a lot of people only trade in blocks of
1000 and its easier to find untied 50K instead of 100K. Also
the loss per share(yeah with amzn it will always be that!) decreases.
I think the most important thing to consider is that this is the
8th year in a bull market and some people have been rewarded in the
past playing splits. These "pavlovian" bulls will keep doing that,
until they get a few shocks...
