Updated Castlewood web page: --- castlewoodsystems.com ORB STATUS June Update ORB CONTINUES BETA Thank you again for the continued high level interest in ORB. We would like to tell you that the product is shipping in large quantities and you can source the product at the following outlets. However, the reality is that we are continuing with our Beta program and will ship ORB when all Beta feedback is incorporated in the design and the product is 100% reliable. As you may appreciate, our product is the worlds first Magneto Resistive (MR) Removable Drive incorporating the latest in advanced technology. Castlewood's technology breakthroughs are possible due to our engineering and design teams years of experience in the data storage, removable media and hard disk environments. Frankly, producing the fastest, highest capacity, most reliable removable media drive is a very challenging endeavor. We are adhering to a strict procedure of testing as follows: 1.Internal tests by Castlewood. 2.External tests done by reputable certification companies. 3.End User Beta tests done by consumers We have received continuous good feedback results from these various tests that have caused our delay. We expect to ship our products in Quarter 3 of 1998. We will keep you posted on shipments as they happen. Castlewood is making every effort to meet the worldwide market demand. Consumers have embraced our product technology and value offering, validating our early expectations. We appreciate your support and patience as we finalize and prepare ORB for final delivery. Where to Purchase? We will update the Castlewood Website announcing OEM and Worldwide Channel and Reseller partners during July and August. Please register with us on our Website to receive direct correspondence or check back with our Website in the next few weeks for further updates. Thank you for your patience and we ask you to continue in ORBit a few more weeks. ------ This update jibes with what they told me at PC Expo. They were working on software and firmware issues before releasing Orb. They told me they would release it in August, which is consistent with the "3rd Quarter" time frame indicated in this new update. Well, Iomega's Jaz had a pretty good run while it lasted. But you can pretty much kiss it goodbye in 2 months. Same with Zip Plus. As for Syquest, I'm amazed they have stayed in business this long. But Castlewood may be delivering the final nail in that coffin too.
