BURBANK, Calif.--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--June 24, 1998--Judith
Estrin, chief technology officer and senior vice president of Cisco Systems, has been elected to the board of directors of The Walt Disney Co., it was announced Wednesday by Michael D. Eisner, chairman and chief executive officer.

"As a company devoted to the application of advanced technology to enhance and broaden the appeal of our worldwide entertainment offerings, we are delighted and honored to have Judy Estrin join our board," said Eisner.

"Judy is the kind of entrepreneurial risk-taker that all companies need to stay young, vibrant and growing," he said. "We view Disney ... at age 75 ... as one of those companies. Her experience, knowledge and judgment will be valued."

In her current position at Cisco, Estrin, 43, is responsible for strategic technology planning and business development, including investments and acquisitions, consulting engineering and advanced Internet projects as well as legal and government affairs.

Prior to joining Cisco, she was co-founder with her husband, Bill Carrico, of three successful start-up companies in 16 years: Bridge Communications, a LAN (local-area network) and internetworking business that was eventually bought by 3COM in 1987 for $235 million; Network Computing Devices Inc. (NCDI), where she served as president and CEO of the $144 million public company before moving on; and Precept Software Inc., a leading multimedia networking software company purchased by Cisco in March for $84 million.

Born in Israel, Estrin holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and computer science from UCLA, where both her parents were science professors, and a master's degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, where she was involved in early development of the TCP/IP protocols.

She serves as director on the boards of Federal Express, Rockwell International and Sun Microsystems.
