Richard, console yourself, the short will have to pay taxes anyhow. Gone are the day that they could drive a company into oblivion and never pay taxes on their ill gotten gains. They have to mark to market at the end of the year and pay taxes.

Much of the time, Chapter 11 is an interim step before a liquidation under Chapter 7. Even if there is something to reorganize, the ownership interest of the existing shareholders will probably be wiped out.

Win some, lose some. It sure looks like the story that Forbes ran some time last year was right on target.

If you haven't kissed your investment goodbye already, it's time to move on.
