zc66,

we've probably covered this in as much detail as we can, but here goes one more time ...

- Oracle now is # 3 in applications license revenue, according to some industry analysts. they have access to data we don't have. except for the issue of which software packages they consider applications for the purposes of comparison, we should take their information at face value.
- Oracle's applications license revenue is growing much slower than its two main competitors, SAP and PeopleSoft. In fact, if what I remember from the Q4 con call is correct, Oracle grew 0% year to year for Q4. Remember, this is applications license revenue only. When you add services, the applications business reported robust growth year to year for Q4, although at substantially lower growth rates than previous quarters, and than their primary competitors
- why should we care if applications revenue is flat, if services continue to grow? because services are a largely a function of earlier period license revenues. if license revenue growth dries up, eventually the service license revenue growth will also.
