This latest manufacturing defect is a pie in the face. Is Q's product testing limited to hanging on the engineer's belt while they work at their desks? If they want to shake these things out, take them home and give them to their kids! Two days of that kind of testing would have turned up the current problem.

Still it is only one phone style among many. As long as the company keeps the returns hassle free, this will blow over and not impact the future, which I still see as bright.

Just another day on the learning curve with the Q.

JGoren:

I would caution you on your wording. Marc Cabi CLAIMS that Qualcomm has stopped selling the 'Q', but I have heard nothing from the company to corroborate this allegation. Prima facia it strikes me as awfully peculiar that management would give Brian Modoff (at BT Alex Brown) an "all clear" two days ago if there were production problems with the 'Q'. It also seems inconsistent that GTE PCS would pick the product up, as it did during the quarter, if there were systemic problems.

Irwin has told me previously that some of the early phones did have problems with the plastics, but that these issues were promptly addressed. I find it inconceivable that the company would allow something as correctable as a plastic mold to torpedo a marque product like the 'Q'.

I will post the company's response just a soon at I get a return call.

Best Regards,

Gregg
