The independent audit of Guido's report can go beyond just checking the calculations and the methods described. All that the chosen firm has to do is to use Guido's map of the sampling work and send people to redo some of the samples, perhaps one in ten or even one in twenty. That would allow them to verify the validity of the data. This could be done much quicker than a completely new study and, with the auditing of the methodology, would go a long way in confirming the find.
