Great article, Greg. Thanks. Gives a great perspective on everything. I have both LU and CSCO, but my bet is on CSCO. What about you?

Gregory, this is not overly important, just an interesting observation. Jubak makes the statement:

....."The winner gets the biggest hunk of the revenue from building the communications network of tomorrow, the one that combines the voice traffic of the current phone system with the rivers of data currently streaming down the Internet.".....

I would take issue with this, since "the network of tomorrow" never arrives in this instance. In fact, I think that he successfully described an architecture that is already slated for obsolescence with a fairly predictable date in mind (around 2002), if he is talking about combining the "voice traffic of the current phone system..."

By definition, such gateway- and adjunct- supported architectures in themselves would only be transitional in nature, leaving plenty of room for leap-frogging by others. That's the way it has worked, historically.
